Antimicrobial Protection
EXOCOAT™ AM is an advanced antimicrobial coating designed to provide durable and effective surface protection against bacteria and fungi. The technology integrates antimicrobial functionality directly into the coating matrix, ensuring long‑lasting performance without compromising mechanical or aesthetic properties. EXOCOAT™ AM helps reduce microbial growth on coated surfaces, contributing to improved hygiene and lower contamination risks. The solution is suitable for a wide range of substrates and applications where cleanliness and durability are critical. With its non‑leaching, built‑in antimicrobial action, EXOCOAT™ AM delivers reliable protection throughout the lifetime of the coating.

Everything you need to know about EXOCOAT™ AM
What is EXOCOAT AM?
EXOCOAT™ AM is a ready-to-use, water-based antimicrobial coating based on nano-titanium dioxide (TiO₂). It forms a durable, invisible layer and provides long-lasting hygiene by photocatalytic activation under light (breaking down microbes and organic residues at the surface).
Is EXOCOAT AM a disinfectant, or can it be mixed into cleaning liquids?
No. AM is a coating designed for long-term antimicrobial action at the surface; disinfectants are short-term sprays unrelated to durable photocatalytic films. Do not use AM as an additive in cleaning liquids; apply it to the surface as per the instructions for use.
On what materials can EXOCOAT AM be applied?
According to the instructions for use, it can be used indoors on aluminium, painted metal, lacquered surfaces, glass, plastics; and outdoors on bare metals, tiles, mineral substrates, and rendered walls.
How do I apply EXOCOAT AM? What film thickness is recommended?
Spray application is preferred (conventional or rotary bell). Typical dry film thickness (DFT) is 100–400 nm. The IFU specifies example spray parameters (e.g., 0.8–1.2 mm nozzle, ~3 bar for conventional spray; 50,000–70,000 rpm for rotary bell).
Can it be wiped on?
Wiping is possible but not recommended (can leave stripes or rainbow interference), especially on glass or glossy surfaces. If used, expect very thin films (<1 µm).
How quickly does it dry/cure?
Dries to touch in a few minutes. Full cure indoors: up to 1 week at room temperature for maximum durability.
How long does EXOCOAT AM last?
The durability of the coating depends on how the surface is maintained. On surfaces that are not frequently touched or exposed to wear, it can last up to five years. However, on high-traffic surfaces, the lifespan may be reduced to just a few months.
What performance evidence and standards back EXOCOAT AM?
Reference testing frameworks including ISO 22196 (antibacterial on plastics), ISO 21702 (antiviral on non-porous surfaces), ISO 18184 (antiviral on textiles), ISO 13629 (antifungal on textiles), with representative reductions (e.g., SARS-like coronavirus (TGEV) 5 log-scale reductions within 24 h; Aspergillus brasiliensis fungal can be reduced in a matter of hours. These illustrate the mechanism and typical kinetics observed in validation work.
How should EXOCOAT AM be integrated into hospital/medical room protocols?
Follow the Clean → Disinfect → Apply AM sequence. Our medical room protocol leaflet recommends using cold fogger or electrostatic sprayer for ultrafine droplets; it highlights that surfaces treated with AM remain nearly bacteria-free for ≥6 months, versus rapid re-contamination with disinfection alone.
