The anodic layer is not a paint layer on top of the aluminum; it is an oxide layer grown from the aluminum surface itself. This is one of the reasons why anodizing is valued in façade construction, design, transport and demanding industrial environments.
In practice, however, some environments place additional stress on the surface. Coastal areas with salt deposition, industrial locations with airborne pollutants, aggressive cleaning procedures, concrete run-off and long exposure to moisture can all influence the visual appearance and long-term cleanliness of anodized aluminum. In these situations, additional protective treatment can be valuable, especially when the aesthetic appearance of the surface is critical.
In collaboration with Alucol, a Dutch specialist in aluminum anodization, AXCENTIVE has developed EXOCOAT® Ceramic+ as an additional protective treatment for anodized aluminum and other substrates. The objective is not to replace anodizing, but to enhance the performance of the anodized surface in demanding environments and to make the surface easier to maintain.
